Whether you're drawn to Tokyo’s urban energy, the historic beauty of Kyoto, or the breathtaking landscapes surrounding Mount Fuji, the 2026 Japan cruise season offers a journey of cultural discovery. As John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises, remarked, “Only on Princess can you become immersed into Japan's rich culture, ancient traditions, and incredible beauty while enjoying a completely unique onboard fusion of eastern and western cultures."

Diamond Princess: Sailing Through Japan’s Seasons and Festivals

Princess’ Diamond Princess returns for this extended 2026 season, offering a range of exciting itineraries that highlight Japan’s dynamic landscapes, from spring cherry blossoms to autumn foliage and wintery scenes. Princess Cruises is set to provide culturally curious travellers with a variety of ways to experience Japan’s architecture, local cuisine, temples, festivals, and more.

Here are some of the seasonal highlights of the 2026 Japan cruise season:

  • Spring Flowers Cruises (March and April): These 10- and 11-day voyages follow the blooming season across Japan’s four main islands. Guests will witness Japan's iconic cherry blossoms as they sweep from Kyushu in the south to Hokkaido in the north.
  • Circle Japan Voyages: Travelling the circumference of Japan, these 9- to 14-day cruises will take you to Nagasaki, Kanazawa, and Maizuru (gateway to Kyoto), among other fascinating cities.
  • Southern Islands Itineraries: Explore Japan's subtropical islands with 9-day voyages that include visits to Okinawa and Ishigaki in Japan, as well as stops in Taiwan at Keelung (Taipei) and Hualien.
  • Japan Explorer Voyages: Ranging from 7 to 11 days, these itineraries offer in-depth exploration of some of Japan's most iconic destinations, including Shimizu (for Mount Fuji), Osaka (for Kyoto), and Hiroshima.
  • Longer Voyages (15 to 28 days): For travellers looking for a more immersive experience, Princess Cruises offers longer voyages, allowing for deeper exploration of Japan’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Additionally, the season will feature late-night stays in six ports, allowing guests to enjoy more time at major festivals such as the Aomori Nebuta Festival, the Hakodate Minato Festival, and the Kochi Yosaki Festival.

Southeast Asia Grand Adventures

Before embarking on its Japan season, Diamond Princess will offer voyages to Southeast Asia, providing travellers with a unique opportunity to explore some of the region’s most exotic locations. These voyages will depart in January 2026 and include stops in Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Key itineraries include:

  • 10-Day Vietnam with Halong Bay: This journey departs from Singapore, offering scenic cruising through Halong Bay, with stops in Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, and Da Nang.
  • 11-Day Malaysia & Thailand: Another itinerary departing from Singapore, this cruise visits iconic destinations such as Phuket, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok.

These two itineraries can be combined into a 21-day Southeast Asia Grand Adventure, creating an unforgettable cruise experience through the vibrant landscapes and cities of Southeast Asia.

Onboard Experiences: A Japanese-Inspired Journey on Diamond Princess

The Diamond Princess, built by Mitsubishi in Nagasaki, is designed to offer an immersive experience in Japanese culture and traditions. Guests can look forward to Japanese-inspired features throughout the ship, making the onboard journey just as enriching as the destinations themselves.

One of the standout experiences is the Izumi Bath, modeled after a traditional Japanese onsen. This tranquil space allows guests to relax and enjoy the centuries-old bathing rituals that are so central to Japanese culture. The ship also offers regional dishes from the Noodle Bar and Kai Sushi, where fresh sushi is prepared by skilled chefs. Guests can sample fine Japanese whiskeys, sake, and shochu, and enjoy traditional entertainment such as rakugo storytelling, karaoke, and folkloric dance performances.

With a blend of eastern and western influences, the Diamond Princess offers a truly unique cruise experience, allowing guests to appreciate the rich traditions of Japan while enjoying the modern comforts and amenities of a luxury cruise.
