Disney and OLC Join Forces for Year-Round Disney Cruises in Japan

Disney OLC Japan

Disney fans in Japan are in for a magical treat as Disney and Oriental Land Co., Ltd. (OLC) announce an exciting new partnership to bring year-round Disney cruise vacations to Japan. This latest collaboration, announced on July 9, 2024, marks a significant milestone in the over 40-year relationship between Disney and OLC, promising to deliver unforgettable Disney experiences at sea for Japanese guests.

The Evolution of a Magical Partnership

The long-standing partnership between Disney and Oriental Land Co. has already brought the magic of Disney to millions through Tokyo Disney Resort. Now, this collaboration is set to expand even further with the introduction of a Disney-branded cruise ship that will operate year-round from Japan. This move underscores Disney Cruise Line's commitment to bringing its unique blend of family entertainment, exceptional guest service, and enchanting storytelling to more guests worldwide.

Disney OLC Partnership

"Disney Cruise Line has ambitious plans to bring family vacations and Disney storytelling to more guests around the world than ever before," said Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences. "We are thrilled to continue the success of this expansion as we collaborate with Oriental Land Co. to introduce another distinctly Disney vacation experience to families and fans in Japan."

This new venture will see OLC leveraging its extensive experience in the theme park business to create a world-class cruise operation. Yumiko Takano, representative director, chairperson, and CEO of Oriental Land, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "I am sincerely proud that Disney and Oriental Land will be able to work together to create a world-class cruise business in Japan. Oriental Land will use their knowhow from the theme park business to continue pushing boundaries and provide family entertainment cruise experiences filled with inspiration and surprise."

A Ship Designed with Japanese Guests in Mind

The new Disney cruise ship, to be constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, will be a sister ship to the popular Disney Wish. With imaginative designs by Walt Disney Imagineering, the ship will feature many beloved venues and experiences from Disney Wish, but with select modifications tailored specifically for Japanese guests. The ship is expected to be approximately 140,000 gross tons and will be powered by liquefied natural gas, showcasing Disney's commitment to sustainability.

The vessel will boast about 1,250 staterooms, providing ample space for families to enjoy their magical vacations. From world-class dining and entertainment to themed areas inspired by Disney stories, the ship promises a unique blend of luxury and enchantment. More details about the maiden voyage, itineraries, and onboard experiences will be revealed in the coming months, building anticipation among Disney fans in Japan.

Bringing Disney Magic to Japanese Waters

With this new ship, Disney Cruise Line aims to bring the joy and wonder of Disney to the seas surrounding Japan. Guests can look forward to immersive experiences that capture the essence of Disney storytelling. Whether it's meeting beloved characters, enjoying Broadway-calibre shows, or dining in whimsical themed restaurants, every moment on board is designed to create lasting memories.

The ship will offer a variety of itineraries, allowing guests to explore the beauty of Japan's coastline and beyond. From the bustling cityscapes of Tokyo to the serene beaches of Okinawa, each voyage will be an opportunity to discover new destinations while indulging in the magic of Disney. Additionally, the ship's advanced design and eco-friendly technology align with Disney's commitment to sustainability, ensuring that guests can enjoy their vacations with a clear conscience.

A New Chapter in Disney Cruise Line's Expansion

This latest development is part of Disney Cruise Line's broader strategy to expand its global reach. With plans for year-round cruises from Singapore starting in 2025 and now the introduction of a new ship based in Japan, Disney is set to enchant even more guests with its signature magic. The collaboration with OLC highlights the strength of Disney's partnerships and its dedication to delivering unparalleled vacation experiences.

Kenji Yoshida, representative director, president, and COO of Oriental Land Co., expressed his excitement about the new venture, stating, "This agreement represents a new chapter in our long-standing relationship with Disney. We are excited to bring the magic of Disney Cruise Line to Japan and offer guests a unique and unforgettable experience."
