Disney Cruise Line has announced an important update about its newest ship, Disney Adventure, and it is news that many guests (including us here at S.W. Black Travel) did not want to hear...Originally expected to debut sooner, the maiden voyage of Disney Adventure has now been postponed to 10 March 2026.
This decision comes as Disney continues to reimagine a partially built vessel into what promises to be a truly unique Disney experience at sea. While delays are always disappointing, especially for families and Disney fans with plans already in place, Disney has been clear that the change is about making sure every detail meets the high standards guests expect.
What This Means for Affected Guests
If you were booked on one of the impacted Disney Adventure sailings, here is what you need to know:
-
Automatic Refund: Any payments already made will be refunded back to your original form of payment.
-
50% Future Cruise Discount: Disney is offering a 50% discount on your voyage fare for a future booking.
-
Booking Timeline:
-
You will be able to rebook as soon as your cancellation confirmation comes through.
-
The future cruise must be booked by 31 March 2026 and must sail on or before 31 March 2027.
-
-
How to Rebook: Guests can rebook through their travel adviser (that is us) or, if booked directly with Disney, by contacting their reservations team.
Disney has also noted that the 50% discount may not appear immediately in your account until 8 October 2025. If you book before then, you will receive an updated confirmation once the discount is applied.
Our Experience
We were personally impacted by this change, as we had been booked to sail on 1 January 2026. Flights and accommodation were already locked in for this long-awaited trip, so the news of the delay has been disappointing.
That said, we can appreciate that Disney wants to deliver a ship that feels truly magical and meets the high expectations of families who choose to cruise with them.
Why the Delay?
Transforming a partially built ship into a Disney masterpiece is no small task. Disney is investing heavily to ensure the Disney Adventure is not just another cruise ship, but a floating destination full of magic, imagination and storytelling.
Delays in the shipbuilding process mean more time is needed to get it right. If Disney’s past ships are anything to go by, the final result will be worth the wait.
Looking Ahead to 2026 and 2027
Disney Adventure will officially welcome her first guests on 10 March 2026, with additional sailings to be released from March 2026 onward. While this means a longer wait, it also gives families time to plan, save and dream about being among the first to experience the magic of this new chapter for Disney Cruise Line.
At S.W. Black Travel, we will keep you updated on every new announcement about Disney Adventure, including itineraries and booking opportunities.
Our Take
It is frustrating when plans change, especially when travel arrangements have already been made. However, the 50% future cruise discount is a very generous offer, and it provides Disney fans an incredible chance to experience the Adventure at half the fare.
Our advice is to lock in your rebooking early. With such a strong offer on the table, demand is expected to be high once new sailings open.
